Is online coaching as effective as meeting in person?

Yes. More than 80 percent of our coaching now takes place online and the outcomes are the same. Screen sharing makes online sessions arguably more concrete than sitting side by side.

Can I get coaching in English if my programme is Dutch?

Yes, and the other way around too. Our coaches work in both languages and you choose which one you are more comfortable in.

Is this allowed by my university?

Independent coaching alongside your official supervision is permitted at Dutch institutions, as long as the work stays yours. We never write, rewrite wholesale, or submit anything on your behalf. If you are unsure about your programme’s rules, we are happy to talk it through in the intake call.

What if I am outside the Netherlands or in a different time zone?

We coach students across Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and the Americas. Sessions are scheduled at a time that works for both of you, including evenings and weekends.

Who we work with online

International students at Dutch universities. You are enrolled at Erasmus University Rotterdam, UvA, VU, Utrecht, Maastricht University, Groningen, Twente, Wageningen, TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, Tilburg or at one of the universities of applied sciences, and you are writing your thesis in English. Your supervisor gives feedback in short sentences on a form you have never seen before, and you are not sure what it actually asks you to change. That is one of the most common reasons students come to us.

Students doing fieldwork or an internship abroad. You are registered in the Netherlands but collecting data in another country, in another time zone, with limited contact with your supervisor. Online coaching keeps the process going while you are away.

Dutch and international students living outside the Netherlands. We regularly coach students based in Belgium, Curaçao, Suriname, Aruba, South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and elsewhere. If you have internet and a document, we can work together.

Students in English taught programmes who are not native speakers. Writing academic work in a second language is a skill on its own. Your coach helps you say what you mean precisely, without rewriting the thesis for you. See also academic writing.

How online coaching actually works

Free intake call. We discuss your programme, your deadline, where you are stuck and what kind of support you need. Send us your assignment brief, the assessment criteria and anything you have already written. This costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
We match you with a coach. Not a recent graduate, but an experienced professional with relevant subject knowledge and research experience, who can also handle academic English at the level your programme expects. Meet our thesis coaches.
You work in sessions. Video calls through Teams, Zoom or Google Meet, with screen sharing so you both look at the same paragraph and see the change being made. Between sessions you can email your coach with questions or send new sections for written feedback. Some students prefer phone or WhatsApp for short check ins.
You keep the overview. Every minute of coaching is logged in the Topscriptie Community, so you always know exactly what you have used and what is left.

You schedule directly with your own coach, so the rhythm is yours: weekly sessions during an intensive phase, or one session a month when you only need a checkpoint.

Why students choose online over on location?

Time zones and travel are no longer a problem. If you are collecting data in Ghana or writing from Lisbon, the coaching continues.
You get the right expert, not the nearest one. On location you are limited to coaches in your city. Online you get the person who actually knows mixed methods research in healthcare, or moderation analysis, or Dutch administrative law.
Screen sharing is better than a coffee table. Working live in your own document, with track changes visible, is the single most effective part of the session for most students.
Urgent help is possible. In certain periods we offer priority coaching for students facing a very short deadline. Ask us about availability.

Rates

Coaching starts at 69 euro per hour, exempt from Dutch VAT, with lower hourly rates in the 10 and 20 hour packages. You can buy a single session or a package, and unused hours can be used for any part of your thesis process. Full overview on our rates page.
