Gideon is an experienced and highly motivated thesis supervisor. In 2008, he graduated cum laude from the University of Groningen with a Master’s degree in General Pedagogical Sciences (Adult Education and Lifelong Learning), and in 2014 he received his PhD from the Medical Faculty of the Free University on a study of the process and impact of Eigen Kracht conferences in public mental health care. Gideon particularly supervises students of medical studies (such as health sciences, HBO-V, MANP etc.) and social studies, but can also assist you if you have chosen another field of study. Gideon is also specialized in qualitative research.
In addition to thesis supervision, Gideon also works as a lecturer and researcher in the field of mental health and social work at Southern Cross University in Gold Coast, Australia. Gideon began his career in 2004 as a nurse at GGZ Drenthe and then Arkin in Amsterdam. Before moving to Australia in 2016, he held a position as a researcher and lecturer at the VU Medical Center, Department of Medical Humanities. Since 2013, he has been a Research Fellow at Universidad de San Gil (UNISANGIL), Colombia, where he helps teachers improve their research skills. Gideon has a strong interest in social (mental) health research, especially in the involvement of family and social networks in decision-making and care planning. He has extensive experience since 2010 (both in the Netherlands and Australia and Colombia) in guiding students in preparing and conducting research, and writing their thesis.
